The Exciting Big Game Animal of Ontario
Black Bear records are segregated into five categories - Archery, Crossbow, Black Powder,
All Time and Modern Firearm. Select a category from the panel above to find out about the highest
scoring entry.
Although Ontario is one of the top producing Black Bear regions of North America, the potential
of this natural resource has not yet been fully recognized by Ontario sportsmen. Each year our
American neighbours eagerly take to our northern woods in search of this shy and elusive quarry,
bringing with them much appreciated revenues for nearby communities. When they leave, they take
good memories and many trophy bruins. Many of these trophies are recorded in our Ontario
Record Book.
As a rule, many resident hunters have not ventured into the woods, in large numbers to seek the Black
Bear. As a result, the number of bears in the Record book are less than the other two species.
